Abstract

This study explored the organizational performance of the African Leadership Excellence Academy, which was formerly known as “Meles Zenawi Leadership Academy”. Specifically, the study sought to determine the causes, effects and future strategies for improving the organizational performance of the Academy. Qualitative research with a case study design was employed. Primary data were collected through telephone interviews from employees, directorate directors and former faculty deans. Secondary data were collected from the archival documents. The data were analyzed qualitatively, and four major themes and eleven sub-themes were generated inductively. The findings of the study revealed that the organizational performance of the Academy has declined because of its political affiliation, political instability, national political change, high leadership turnover and reluctance to reform the Academy. Future research may focus on investigating the resource wastage incurred by the Academy due to instability in the leadership of the Academy.
